Training Course for ABACC and IAEA Inspectors on Inspection Procedures Applied to Brazil’s Enrichment Facilities

Between 8 and 12 December 2025, ABACC conducted, in cooperation with ANSN (National Nuclear Security Authority), CTMSP (Navy Technological Center – São Paulo), INB (Indústrias Nucleares do Brasil), and the IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency), a course for ABACC and IAEA inspectors on “Inspection Procedures Applied to Brazilian Uranium Enrichment Facilities.” The first part of the training took place at the ANSN Safeguards Laboratory (LASAL/IRD) in Rio de Janeiro, and the second part at the INB Nuclear Fuel Factory – Enrichment Unit, in Resende.

Six ABACC inspectors and six IAEA inspectors were trained. In addition to ABACC instructors, speakers from the IAEA, CTMSP, and INB also participated. The practical part was supported by ANSN/LASAL and INB.

The course covered topics such as an introduction to uranium enrichment theory, discussions on safeguards approaches, and the joint application of procedures for operating the equipment used in these facilities, among other subjects.

These courses are essential to ensure the effective application of inspections under the Common System of Accounting and Control of Nuclear Materials (SCCC), administered by ABACC, and under IAEA safeguards.
