Radiological Protection Day - April 15

On April 15, in celebration of the Day of Radiological Protection, an event was held at the Instituto of Radioproteção e Dosimetria (IRD / CNEN), which brought together specialists from institutions in the country to discuss the challenges of radiological protection in Brazil.

Radiation protection supervisors, operators, users, regulatory authorities, professors and postgraduate students participated in the conference. Five round tables were held to address the main aspects of radiological protection in the areas of medicine, environment, fuel cycle, conventional industry and emergency.

At the opening session, Ms. Sonia Fernández Moreno of the Brazilian-Argentine Agency for Accounting and Control of Nuclear Materials held the lecture “Dan Beninson: A Great Legacy for Radiation Protection” when it was presented his trajectory and contribution. The National Radiological Protection Program of Latin America and the Caribbean (FRALC) chose April 15 to celebrate the day of radiological protection in honor to Dr. Beninson. On April 15, 1996, Dan Beninson, professor of Radiation Protection, received the highest award in the area: the Sievert Award for his contribution to global radiation protection.
