ABACC participated in the International Symposium on Safeguards, organized by the IAEA from 5 to 8 November 2019 in Vienna.
The Symposium, held every four years, aimed to discuss and answer to current and future challenges, and the capacities to be developed by the IAEA and Member States to provide an innovative response to the implementation of safeguards. Emphasis was placed on innovative technologies and approaches to strengthen the safeguards and to explore partnerships and cooperation mechanisms.
ABACC participated in the presentation of three technical papers, one with the IAEA and the Argentine Nuclear Regulatory Authority (ARN), and the other with the IAEA and the Brazilian National Nuclear Energy Commission (CNEN).
Present was the Secretary of ABACC, Dr. Marco Marzo, who chaired a session on national and regional safeguards systems. A Planning and Evaluation Officer participated in the Symposium, who presented a paper on current and future cooperation between ABACC and the IAEA in the application of safeguards, and also moderated a panel dedicated to improving the gender balance and career opportunities in safeguards.
