ABACC receives diplomats from the United Nations Programme of Fellowships on Disarmament

October 6 to 9, 2019, ABACC hosted twenty-five fellows and two coordinators of the United Nations Programme of Fellowships on Disarmament. The Program consists of three segments, including study visits to several international organizations related to disarmament, arms control and non-proliferation.

It is highlighted that Argentina and Brazil were able to include ABACC in the Program agenda. The pioneering initiative demonstrates the recognition by the international community of the highly successful experience in building trust between the two countries.

The agenda included lectures on the ABACC model and the regional safeguards system, the technical activities carried out to implement safeguards, the visit to its technical units and the visit to Brazil’s Nuclear Industries Fuel Elements Factory in Resende.

Ambassador Gustavo Zlauvinen, Secretary of Foreign Affairs of Argentina, Minister Marcelo Câmara, Head of the Disarmament and Sensitive Technologies Division of the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ms. Lilia Palhares, Safeguards Coordinator of the National Nuclear Energy Commission participated at opening of the event.
