ABACC receives diplomats from the United Nations Programme of Fellowships on Disarmament
Argentina and Brazil managed to include ABACC in the agenda of the United Nations Disarmament Fellowship Program. The pioneering initiative demonstrates the recognition by the international community of the highly successful experience in building trust between the two countries.
The Program comprises three segments, including visits to several international organizations related to disarmament, arms control and non-proliferation.
October 8 to 11, 2023, ABACC hosted twenty-four fellows and two coordinators of the Program at its headquarters in Rio de Janeiro. The agenda included lectures on the ABACC model and the regional safeguards system, technical activities carried out for the implementation of safeguards, visits to its technical units, and a visit to the Fuel Element Factory of the Brazilian Nuclear Industries in Resende.
The opening of the event was attended by Counselor Claudio Leopoldino, Head of the Disarmament and Sensitive Technologies Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brazil, and Minister María Cecilia Los Arcos, Head of the Political Section of the Argentine Embassy in Brazil.
October 11th to 13th, the fellows and coordinators of the Program had an agenda in Argentina, including lectures on the Nuclear Program and Regulatory Activities in Argentina and ABACC’s Activities in the country. They visited the RA-10 reactor, CONUAR, and the National Bank of Controlled Materials.
The opening of the event in Argentina was attended by Ambassador Claudio Javier Rozencwaig, Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs, International Trade and Worship, Minister Maurício Fávero, Chargé d’Affaires of Brazil to Argentina, and Miss Ana Maria Vaz de Araujo, Planning and Evaluation Officer.
