69th Session of the IAEA General Conference
The 69th General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) was held from September 15th to 19th in Vienna, Austria. Throughout the week, ABACC representatives held meetings with related institutions and authorities.
On September 15th, they met with the President of KINAC (Institute of Nuclear Nonproliferation and Control), Ms. Na Young Lee, to discuss topics of common interest and receive an update on the activities carried out by both institutions.
On September 16th, they attended the inauguration of the Argentina and Brazil booths, with the participation of the IAEA Director General and authorities from both countries. They met the Argentine delegation, led by Mr. Demián Reidel, President of the Nucleoelétrica of Argentina and presented the activities carried out by ABACC. On the same day, they met with the Director of Safeguards of EURATOM, Mr. Setephan Lechner and advisors to discuss topics common to both institutions.
On September 17, ABACC representatives met with the IAEA Deputy Director General for Safeguards, Massimo Aparo, the Chief of Operations B, Miharu Kiryu, and the Chief of Section, Maria Tereza Álvarez, to discuss issues related to the coordination of activities between both agencies. At the end of the day, Secretary Agustín Arbor González delivered a statement at the plenary session of the General Conference, highlighting the verification activities carried out in 2024, the training of inspectors, as well as the visit of fellows from the United Nations Disarmament Programme, among others.
On September 19, ABACC representatives met with IAEA Director General, Mr. Rafael Mariano Grossi.
